Shape Talks

Critical thinking, out loud

A Shape Talk is a moderated debate: two sides of a room, a minute per point. Nobody is assessed, and everyone at the public debates chose to be there.

The debate asks for a claim with a reason behind it, said out loud to people who disagree.

A secondary-school classroom in discussion: students talk a question through across their desks, with the rest of the class at work behind them

The public debates

The public Shape Talks are held at Impact Hub Ljubljana and are open to anyone. Each one turns on a single question. Shape Talks were also part of our 2026 entrepreneurship school, and we have started taking the debate format into secondary-school classrooms.

  1. Local or global?

Where does real impact start: at your doorstep or on the global stage?

  2. Utopia or dystopia

Are we heading towards a brighter or a darker future?

  3. Meaningful work: your own boss or a job at a company

Is a permanent job a luxury or a trap?

  4. Work-life balance?

The challenge of balancing work and life.

What a debate shows

  1. 01

Whether they can back up a claim

A minute per point forces a claim and a reason. People who only have the claim soon run out of things to say, and everyone in the room notices.

  2. 02

Whether a good reason changes their mind

Live polls show where the room stands before the debate and after it. When the numbers move, people changed their minds because a reason held up.

  3. 03

Whether they come when they don’t have to

Nobody is graded and nobody gets credit, and still they turn up on a weekday evening to think through a question with no right answer.
